A new cultural and community space for South London?

Since 2018 our group of local volunteers have been striving to raise awareness of Crystal Palace Bowl, while working closely with the London Borough of Bromley and Crystal Palace Park Trust to find a viable and sustainable future use for the stage structure.
We believe this could be as a new multi-use cultural and community space for South London, with live music hopefully playing an important part in any future plans.

Our events and activities have sought to make the Bowl more accessible to local residents, to tell it’s remarkable story and gather local feedback on what you might like to see happen here in the next few years.

In early 2020 our application to have the stage listed as an ‘Asset of Community Value’ was approved by Bromley Council and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Meanwhile, the council have sought “creative and community-minded business proposals to reactivate the cherished concert platform”. We hope to bring news of some exciting developments on this soon.

Community Events

We exhibited at the 2019 Crystal Palace Festival, introducing the campaign to ‘Reboot the Rusty Laptop’ (as it’s affectionately known by locals) and taking suggestions on potential future uses for the stage. The response was tremendous with ideas ranging from art, cinema and theatre, yoga and aerobics, food and drink, to music of all genres and sizes.

At Open House Festival in September 2019 and 2020, we invited the general public to gain access the Bowl for the first time in many years, for special guided tours.
Over 500 visitors were welcomed in a single day, learning about the long history of music at Crystal Palace, the innovative architecture of the Bowl and having the chance to follow in the footsteps of legends, by walking on stage!

In Summer 2020 a blue plaque to commemorate Bob Marley & the Wailers legendary gig at the Bowl was successfully crowdfunded - you can read more on the project here.
